Kicked in the Teeth

So I was going through all the proper paperwork for my truck when I found out I needed a “Roadworthy” test from the Colorado Department of Health & Environment… This seemed weird so the next time I was in the DMV I asked about the paperwork. The person at the counter referred me to her supervisor and she did some digging for me. She said that the truck was supposed to be certified by CDHE but she had some bad news… On July 1 of 2019 legislation passed that all vehicles made for the Armed Forces are only allowed for “Off-Road” use (Senate Bill 19-054). She apologized and was quite shocked herself and then told me she was going to have some HUMVEE owners that would be very upset. My heart sank into my stomach and I walked away discouraged. Below is an excerpt from the bill:

So what now…
The short answer is, I don’t know. I’m talking to a few of the Steel Soldiers members and some lawyers to see what we can do to overturn this. but if one of the reps of the bill has a bee in his bonnet over this one I feel like the majority could crush the minority. The minority being those of us who own and use these vehicles.

Please speak up below or send me an email if you have a background in dealing with this sort of thing. From what I have read it sounds like at a state level it’s a lot easier to take on but I’m not sure how much of this I can take on without the help of others.

  1. I read this in another article and was disheartened. I know it affects those that live in the state and am not sure what can be done. I was also concerned for those driving through the state. If the highway patrol doesn’t understand the law, could be difficult on those passing through as well. Kinda like HDT conversions used to pull fifth wheels…not needing a CDL. Good luck!!
